Jodhi May stars in new film, The Silent Twins.
The story is based on the true story of the Gibbons twins. June and Jennifer Gibbons were identical twins from the only Black family in a small town in Wales in the 1970s and 80s. After a spree of vandalism, the girls are sentenced to Broadmoor, an infamous psychiatric hospital, where they face the choice to separate and survive or die together.
Jodhi May will play Marjorie Wallace, the investigative journalist and mental health campaigner who took up their case. The film being adapted from a book by Wallace about the case. She is joined by a cast of Letitia Wright, Tamara Lawrance, Nadine Marshall and Treva Etienne.
It premiered at 2022 Cannes Film Festival with The Guardian giving it four stars calling it ‘an engrossing, well-acted story – disturbing but also tender and sad’.
